We’re different, in the best way.
We founded Silver Pine Capital with the belief that all financial firms are not created equal. We aim to level the playing field for the individual by bringing professional money management and financial planning expertise to the masses.
Some (like my Mom who I think feared that I would be a career student) would say that I'm over-educated. I would say I have varied interests (and that it took awhile to figure things out). I received a BA in History and Spanish from Franklin & Marshall College, an MA in International Affairs from the Elliott School at George Washington University and an MBA in Finance and Corporate Accounting from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. (Note, I received a scholarship for business school. Hence the reason why for someone who hates the cold, I spent two years of my life freezing in upstate New York.) I am a member of the CFA Institute and The Boston Security Analysts Society. In addition, I think it's really important to give back to the community and a result am a member of the Lions Club. I also served as a member of the Warrant Committee (Finance) for the Town of Medfield helping to determine how best to allocate the town's financial resources.
On a personal note, I live in the Boston suburbs with my wife, Phyllis, and our two sons, Cooper and Russell. I love coaching my sons' soccer, football and basketball teams and playing with our dog Howard. I also enjoy hiking, golfing, swimming and skiing.
Over the course of the next several years I spent time at a regional wealth management agency associated with MetLife called Barnum Financial Group. Afterwards I moved over into a role as advisor at two different regional banks. During this time period I was able to meet with hundreds of individuals and business owners, helping them sort through their financial goals and providing ongoing wealth management support.
I am extremely grateful for the experiences I had in the early stages of my financial services career, it very much shaped and informed the advisor I am today. However, I always felt that the best place to service clients would be at an independent registered investment advisory firm or RIA. Which is why after meeting Rob a number of years ago, I decided to join him as Director of Wealth Management here at Silver Pine Capital.
When I think about my past and current experiences working with clients on a daily basis, a quote comes to mind from the Nobel Prize winning economist Richard Thaler:
“People aren’t dumb, the world is hard.”
I see the representation of this statement in my work all the time. My clients have great instincts. They know they need to spend less than they make, save and invest for the future and they have concerns about the risks to their financial wellbeing. What becomes challenging is when you combine the demands of managing household finances with the complexity of our modern world. That’s where our partnership comes in.
In addition to being an advisor to clients, I consider myself an educator, coach, motivator and confidant.
It is a truly humbling experience to be able to partner with clients and assist them as they seek to continually improve their financial wellbeing.
On the personal side, I live in Portsmouth, NH with my wife Abigail and our two sons Gunnar and Hendrix. We love the community we live in and try to be outdoors as much as possible with the kids. If we can’t do that, the next best thing has been working on projects around the house. I like to golf when I can, surf once in a while and I’m not really very good at either. I love to read, which most often means listening to books on Audible. Because if I’m in a position to be reading a physical book these days, I usually fall asleep.
I received a BA in Political Science from Bates College and an Executive MBA from Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration.
